A self-taught emerging American Artist, Ron Oden painted and drew since childhood. Early on Oden turned to commercial art to provide a living for himself and for his family. The artist produced illustrations for stories, advertising, products, billboards, books and news. Oden's graphics work spanned from the hot and cold type eras to the digital age. Former Graphics Director of the Reno Gazette-Journal, Oden produced a body of work which appeared in the newspaper for a decade.
In 2002, one year after the New York World Trade Center tragedy, Oden painted a 60" x 72" canvas titled "Liberty's |

Children" (cover) which he presented to then Nevada Governor Kenny Guinn. Today "Liberty's Children" hangs in the New York State Museum in Albany.
Through years of experience, Oden has become adept at making art that fits the tastes and lifestyles of his collectors across the country and abroad. Oden's diverse array of painting styles and expressions has earned him a proud reputation for creative excellence. Oden's works are expressive, colorful, and original.
Shifting styles from abstract to realism is a hallmark of Oden's work. The artist explains this method as an "absent-conscience" process of painting, in which the artist permits his sub-conscious ideas to come forward, free from his own personal mores. This process allows the artist to tell a story to the viewer with greater expression, and facilitates an open emotional channel between the artist and the viewer, according to the artist. Oden believes: "An idea can be complete only if it is allowed passage into form, free from self-censorship and the bias of the artist's conscious mind." Having created more than 1,350 works to date, the artist continues to work at his Lake Tahoe studio. |
